Reading a ghee or butter label

The current product label is the starting point for ingredients, allergens and storage. Ask for a readable copy before buying if those details are not available on the website.

A closer look.

Read the name and ingredient declaration together

Check the full product name and the ingredient declaration rather than relying on the largest words on the front. For butter, ask whether it is salted or unsalted if that matters to your recipe. For ghee, do not treat a general description of how ghee is made as an ingredient list for a specific brand.

Look for the net weight and confirm that it matches the pack in the quotation. A container's appearance does not tell you its filled weight. If there are several sizes, request the price and details for each size you are considering.

Check allergen information separately

Milk is a food allergen. Ghee and butter are dairy products; do not assume that a preparation method makes a product safe for someone with a milk allergy. Ask for the complete allergen declaration and any relevant cross-contact information for the exact product.

An allergy and an intolerance are different matters. Neither an advertising description nor the absence of an ingredient list online establishes suitability. If the available information does not resolve a dietary requirement, do not rely on an assumption when placing the order.

Find the batch and date information

Ask where the batch identification and best-before or expiry information appear. Check that the dates belong to the pack being offered rather than a previous advertising photograph. Also look for any separate instruction covering use after opening.

Date information and storage instructions need to be read together. A date alone does not explain how a product should be handled. If an instruction is unclear, ask the seller to clarify the wording on the current pack before purchase.

Keep the information with your order

Save the label photographs and written quotation until you have checked the delivered pack. If the information differs, contact the seller with the product name and the detail that needs clarification. Use a private message for order information.

HAMALIZ® enquiries can ask for current pack photographs and batch details. Product pages deliberately direct you to the current label where specifications have not yet been confirmed for publication.
